On January 1, Slovenia became a member of the United Nations Security Council for two years. 31 people work in the permanent representation in New York, 26 of whom are diplomats, including Angelika Mlinar, a Carinthian Slovene and former AGSM spokesperson.
In September, Slovenia also chaired the Security Council, the world organization's most important body, whose decisions are binding on the members of the United Nations. Shortly before the end of its membership, in December next year, it will take over the presidency again.
The Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York employs 31 people, 26 of whom are diplomats, including Angelika Mlinar, a former Austrian parliamentarian and MEP and, for a short time, the Slovenian Minister of Cohesion.
The United Nations Security Council has 15 members: five permanent members, namely the United States, Great Britain, France, Russia and China, and ten members who are in constant rotation. And so the Republic of Slovenia has been a member since January 1, 2024 and will remain so until December 31, 2025.
