Representatives of the Slovenian minority elected to the municipal council of Trieste / Trst

06.10.2021

After the local elections in Italy - also in some municipalities in which the Slovene ethnic group is resident - three Slovenes from the ranks of the Democratic Party will also sit on the Trieste municipal council. The Party of the Slovenian Community (SSk) will put the results to the test on Wednesday.

Local elections were held in Italy on Sunday and Monday. The result was awaited with great attention in the municipality of Trieste / Trst, where the five-year term of office of the current center-right Mayor Roberto Dipiazza was concluded. New administrators have also been elected in some municipalities in which the Slovenian national community is resident or in the list of municipalities in which the provisions of the Slovenian Protection Act apply in Italy. Right-wing mayoral candidates Roberto Dipiazza and center-left President Francesco Russo will face each other in the second ballot in two weeks' time.

The Slovenian news broadcast of the RAI regional headquarters in Trieste reports on its website that three Slovenes from the ranks of the Democratic Party will also sit on the Trieste municipal council: Valentina Repini, Štefan Čok and Stefano Ukmar.
